This fencing jacket was designed with the help and suggestions of Axel Pettersson, to serve the needs of the Swedish schools of historical fencing ( "Gothenburg Historical Fencing School" in particular). The jacket closes in front (see the picture) with the help of a zipper and velcro. On the front of the collar, there is a broad overlap which closes with velcro. The sleeves are specially designed for better arm movement. Also, there are additional protective layers on the chest, schoulders and elbows. The layers of fabric (from the outside) are: 1 layer of cotton, one protective layer, and 1 layer of lining. The jacket was tested at many seminars as well as one in Helsinki on 9-11.08.2011 lead by Axel Pettersson.
The jacket is made of fabrics which have a 350N puncture resistance certificate .

I gave protection a four only becuse the gembeson only covers to about the waist and need something else to protect your hip/outer thigh. I live outside Atlanta and was able to try on all three gembesons. I preferred the Axel Pettersson gambeson over the others. All three offer protection but the Axel model has a cleaner look. I've had the opportunity to wear it several times now for drills and sparring. I have to say I'm more than satisfied with how it protects the upper body while still allowing very good mobilty. Its better than other gambesons I have worn which either offer good protection but you cannot move freely about in it or you can move but it's so thin you might as well wear a hoodie jacket.

I Thought, that after awhile of owning this jacket that I would voice my opinion on it. From when I first discovered the AP jacket I thought thats the type I want. The reviews were choice and sold it for me, my previous gambeson a closed front GDFB was ok, though bunched when going high with the arms, was very hot, heavy and slowed me down due to the cumbersom nature, so the AP jacket which gives a between medium (gambeson/fencing jacket look) was a suitable choice. I found it to be very stylish, infact I almost make up excuses to wear it (when I'm not practicing!) plus it gives a 'Dashing' appeal. It does get hot but thats expected. The mobility is great, you move freely and as fast as you can go, you almost forget your wearing it, although the first time wearing (solo drill to get used to it) the neck front rubbed and chaffed at my neck, though that wasn't an issue next time around.
The duability sofar seems to be good, no complaints, I even added elbow pad plastic covers ((titan fox) simular to how the 'pro' version is setup) and they have stayed on strong with no tears etc.
The protection is good, real heavy hits still hurt but takes the sting out..we practice for the most part with steel and at a moderate speed, still I'd sooner were this than a t-shirt as is mostly seen!
Price wise, for me from New Zealand, buying from Europe is very expensive over $500nzd without post (roughly $400usd) and a long wait. From this site (USA) all up post and all it was well within my price range and well worth what I have paid and not much more than a cumbersome gambeson! Plus shipping was quick (about two weeks).
Customer service was/is also top notch.
And to add, the size, I was in the small and medium sizing, I was recomended the medium, which fit almost like it was taylored to me (I can add chest protection underneith, and my gorget can fit within the neck, if I open it up more, elbow pads I found to be to tight so thats why I sewed them to the outside.).
So in all I am very happy with this jacket and would recomend it. That is thus.
cheers.
So all in all I really like this jacket and feel I made a good choice
